Protection Assistant (Gender Based Violence Assistant)

Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a leading protection agency with a mandate to protect, advocate and promote durable solutions for displacement affected populations.

DRC has been operating in Ukraine since 2014, currently DRC employs over 700 staff in Ukraine and implements emergency response in the Protection, Livelihoods, Shelter/NFIs and Humanitarian Disarmament and Peacebuilding (humanitarian mine action) sectors, using direct interventions, support to duty bearers and civil society organizations (CSOs), and partnerships with CSOs. DRC will continue and adapt its durable solutions portfolio to the evolving context.

DRC is currently looking for a Protection (Gender Based Violence) Assistant based in Dnipro

About The Job

The Protection (GBV) Assistant will support the implementation of activities aimed at preventing and responding to gender-based violence (GBV), raising awareness of GBV and available services, and promoting prevention strategies within targeted communities and in safe and appropriate locations.

The position will contribute to community mobilization and building strong relationships with communities while ensuring dignified, culturally sensitive and survivor-centered approaches.

Your main duties and responsibilities will be:

• Organize and implement mobile GBV activities in coordination with relevant stakeholders.
• Work closely with service providers to facilitate access to high-quality services for GBV survivors and women at risk, including medical care, mental health support, and financial/protection assistance.
• Disseminate action-oriented, specific, inclusive and supportive information about services available to GBV survivors.
• Act as a focal point for women and girls identified through GBV-related activities, including planning and facilitating group activities such as life-skills sessions and recreational activities.
• Provide GBV case management services in accordance with relevant SOPs and procedures, including inter-agency guidance on GBV case management, and ensure proper use of all relevant tools and forms.
• Provide age-appropriate and survivor-centred case management services to women and girls, including needs assessments, basic counselling, development and implementation of care and safety plans, and support in accessing additional services in accordance with survivors’ wishes.
• Ensure proper documentation and safe management of case-related data and information in line with GBV guiding principles and confidentiality requirements.
• Work with inter-agency referral pathways to facilitate access to medical, legal, psychological and other relevant services and accompany clients to services when required.
• Ensure compliance with applicable information-sharing protocols.
• Provide emotional support and psychological first-line assistance to GBV survivors and facilitate individual protection assistance/financial support where appropriate to address immediate protection needs.
• Conduct continuous monitoring to better understand the needs of women and girls, including consultations with women and girls and interviews with relevant stakeholders.
• Participate in case review meetings when required.
• Prepare accurate and high-quality reports and support documentation related to case management activities and ensure their timely submission to the Team Leader.
• Ensure secure archiving of both hard and electronic copies of activity reports and case management documentation.
• Effectively use relevant monitoring and reporting tools and information management platforms, including GBV IMS.
• Perform other duties assigned by the Team Leader and/or Manager related to the achievement of protection objectives.
  
  

About You

To be successful in this role we expect you to have a minimum of 2 years of relevant professional experience, preferably with an international NGO. Moreover, we also expect the following:

Required

• University degree.
• Fluency in Ukrainian.
• English language proficiency at A1 level or above.
• Good computer literacy and confident use of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

We offer

Contract length: long-term fixed-term contract following the successful completion of a three-month probation period and subject to funding availability.

Start date: September 2026

Salary and conditions will be in accordance with Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment for employees on national contracts; starting from EUR 1465 gross per month (depending on experience and qualifications).
